One of our remarkable innovations, ProfiCover®, a semi-permeable membrane cover, stands as a testament to our commitment. It ensures a remarkable reduction in odors, VOCs, and greenhouse gas emissions during the treatment process. Our cutting-edge technologies are meticulously crafted to adhere to the most stringent environmental protection regulations, aligning with the demanding criteria of BAT and BREF. Our dedication to innovation remains unwavering, as we offer economically viable solutions that align with the latest technical, regulatory, and producer requisites. Our expertise extends across facilities processing anywhere from 100 to well over 100,000 tons per year, showcasing our adaptability and comprehensive approach to waste management.

We offer a wide range of membrane-covered solutions such as:

  •       Traditional Windrows
  •       Efficient Side-Wall Systems
  •       The PLS (ProfiKomp® Lifting System). The only membrane-covered solution that is encapsulated at all times, even while placing and removing material or during material transfer

Operating Principles of ProfiKomp® Technologies Our technologies are improved versions of proven membrane-covered aerated static pile (ASP) systems. A positive aeration system regulates oxygen content within the composting units to support microorganisms throughout the composting process. Temperature changes are continuously monitored at different depths within the piles to document PFRP (Process to Further Reduce Pathogens) requirements and to monitor pile conditions. The ProfiKomp® Control System is the driving force behind the process. It is a SCADA system that regulates the processes taking place in the piles and also functions to collect data from the system components. Guided by the ProfiKomp® SCADA software, the PLC manages aeration in the piles. The data measured in the piles is written and processed in the SCADA software. Thanks to the ProfiCover® semi-permeable membrane cover, ideal conditions can be created for the biological and chemical processes taking place inside the composting units. At the same time, odor emissions, dust, VOCs, and GHGs are effectively reduced to a point where biofilters are not necessary. As a result, higher system performance is achieved and requires less space, less energy consumption, and less operator intervention.

ProfiKomp® Aerated Windrow System

The most widespread version of our static system technologies is an aerated windrow system covered with ProfiCover® semi-permeable membrane. The active aeration units ensure the continuous supply of oxygen required for the microorganisms through aeration channels integrated into the concrete (in-floor) or through above-ground pipes (on-floor). Windrows in these systems are typically 2.5-3.5 meters high, 6.0-9.0 meters wide and 10.0-50.0 meters long and are adjusted based on the individual site and amount of waste to be treated. After forming the windrows, the ProfiCover® is placed over the windrows manually (small-scale systems) or with a winding machine (large-scale systems) and fixed to the ground. The winding machines are supplied in three versions, wall-mounted, towed or mobile. This configuration is the simplest and has the lowest investment cost and quickest installation.

ProfiKomp® Decentralized Composting System

Embracing on-site recycling stands as a fundamental pillar within the realm of sustainable waste management, and this holds equally true for composting. These innovative technologies present a host of benefits that align seamlessly with the principles of the circular economy:

  1. Efficiency in Costs and Transportation: The adoption of cost-effective equipment translates to reduced transportation distances and minimized emissions, creating a more eco-friendly approach.
  2. Localized Utilization: By enabling on-site utilization, transportation costs are kept low, contributing to a more resource-efficient system.
  3. Optimal Plant Scale and Lower Operating Costs: The design of economical plant sizes leads to efficient operations and lower maintenance expenditures.
  4. Community Engagement and High-Quality Compost: With the engagement of the local workforce, the outcome is top-notch compost quality, ready for use on-site.
  5. Streamlined Distribution and Local Economic Growth: The establishment of concise sales chains fosters local economic development.

While enhancing our already renowned industrial composting technologies, we’ve embarked on a journey of innovation, crafting a range of machinery and equipment alongside service offerings tailored to small-capacity ventures, community-level garden composting, and even familial settings. These breakthrough technologies extend their professionalism beyond kitchen bio-waste to include biopolymer-based waste streams, such as catering products, collection bags, and sacks. This comprehensive approach positions us at the forefront of sustainable waste management, catering to diverse composting needs and advocating for a more environmentally conscious tomorrow.

ProfiKomp® Side-Wall System

The ProfiKomp®Side-Wall System is an advanced technology that is one of the best and most economical systems to operate today. Compared to the windrow system, the treatment units are enclosed by a concrete floor and side walls which clearly isolate the composting material from the soil and surrounding areas. This configuration allows for a clear separation of rainwater from process water which reduces the size of leachate treatment systems required. Treatment units, sometimes referred to as bunkers, are typically up to 3.5 meters high, 6.0-9.0 meters wide and up to 60.0 meters long which are adjusted based on the individual site and amount of waste to be treated. In this configuration, the ProfiCover® is secured to the side walls with a special anchoring system. This type of fastening not only makes covering and uncovering the treatment unit an easy process, it also extends the life of the ProfiCover® by keeping the cover off the ground and by securing the cover in a much gentler fashion

The side-wall system is a more complex technology and therefore has a higher investment cost compared to the windrow solution. However, in addition to its other benefits, it has an increased throughput in tons/m2 or treatment surface which translates into significantly reduced operating costs

ProfiKomp® Lifting System – PLS

The ProfiKomp® Lifting System (PLS) with its unique lifting structure is our most advanced, state-of-the-art membrane-covered technology. It is the only fully encapsulated technology using semi-permeable membrane covers. At no point in the process is the composting material exposed to the outside environment, even when placing or removing the covers. The lower part of the cover is fixed on three sides to the entire horizontal surface of the surrounding walls. The flexible part of the entrance is at all times connected to a supporting tunnel. To remove the compost from under the cover, the entire cover is lifted upwards with a special framework and lifting motors. The cover is lifted to a height where front-end loaders can place new material into the treatment unit or remove it for further processing. The ProfiKomp® PLS system is the most complex technology offered and therefore has a higher investment cost compared to the windrow or side-wall solutions. However, in addition to its other benefits, it has the unique attribute of being totally enclosed even when the cover is taken off the compost. In addition, the mechanism for placing and removing the cover is even more gentle than the use of a winding machine so the cover life can be further extended. ProfiKomp® Winding Machines: Winding machines are essential for efficiently handling large compost covers that can weigh hundreds of kilograms. We have continuously developed and perfected our winding machines based on many years of professional experience and now offer three versions, wall-mounted, towed, and mobile. Each is a unique machine developed for a specific application. The mobile winder offers the operator the most flexibility and extends cover life due to gentler handling. It is self-propelled and operated remotely and can be diesel or solar-driven.
